Thought Of That, with Linda Meech in the saddle, defeated Warning by more than three lengths with Brilliant Venture back in third place.
Bookmakers slashed Thought Of That's price for the Derby from $11 to $4 following his victory.
Winslow-raised Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace, said the three-year-old would head straight to the Derby.
"I'm confident there's still improvement in Thought Of That," he told The Standard.
"He's crying out for the 2500 metres of the Derby. I'm sure you will see a better horse over the 2500 metres."

Thought Of That won his maiden by eight lengths at Donald before Saturday's win.
"We put the put the blinkers on him for Donald and they did the trick and we thought he had to be hard to beat at Caulfield," Maher said.
"Linda is a very understanding jockey. She's got a great understanding of the horse.
"He's got stayer written all over him. He'll have a spell after the Derby and will be a lot stronger in the autumn following his break."
Thought Of That has won two of his seven starts and earned more than $245,000 in prize-money for his connections.
