Judging by his five-wicket haul in Saturday's season-opener against Cobden, the 35-year-old's extra effort is paying dividends.
Hillman's haul helped Pomborneit rescue victory after posting just 90 runs against Cobden.
The father-of-two said gym work helped reduce wear and tear on his body.
"I'm doing a bit of work on my upper core strength," he said.

"Your body changes as you get older and you might feel OK (initially) but you can end up quite sore.
"Doing little things like this can help."
Hillman said while the ball wasn't swinging dramatically, his teammates bowled to their plan.
"We knew we had to get Cobden playing at the ball as we only made a small total," he said. "We didn't want them to leave too many. Their English recruit (Matt Smalley-Harris) left the ball well but probably didn't have anyone stick with him."
Hillman was helped by Clinton Place (two wickets) and Tharaka Sendanayake (three) in the triumph.
