Warrnambool to host Oktoberfest and Taste of the Coast events this weekend

Saturday's Oktoberfest celebrates the traditional German festival and shows off some of the regions best brews and features German catering.

Meanwhile Sunday's Taste of the Coast promotes the best-of-the-best of food and drink vendors from Warrnambool to Apollo Bay.

Organiser of both events Jordan Thulborn is thrilled to bring the activities to town and said using the same site for both days is a great use of infrastructure.

"Weather is set to be 25 and sunny and we have four beers and a cider on tap for the Oktoberfest event," he said.

"We've expanded the area from last year to cater for a greater capacity and ticket sales are sitting around 2000 with walk-up tickets available on the day and I'm 100 per cent encouraging people to dress up.

"Sunday's event is more relaxing with people invited to bring along their picnic rugs and friends and talk to the vendors about their products.

"There's definitely the aim to bring people to the area for the back-to-back events and the weekend coincides with the South Australian long weekend.

"Warrnambool was recently voted Australia's most livable city and these events are proving there's social events for everyone."

Oktoberfest will feature a German Oompah band, live acoustic acts, a bigger and better silent disco and DJs across the day. Bratwursts and pretzels will be on offer and if beer doesn't tickle your fancy, a range of spirits will be available from the bars. Everyone will receive a 500ml stein on arrival to help them through the festivities. Dayne Beams will be the guest of honour replacing Dane Swan who pulled out earlier this week.

Taste of the Coast features food and drink vendors from Lady Vandeburg, Pick A Pita, Sow & Piglets, Timboon Fine Ice Cream, Blue Pyrenees Estate, Jun's Home Kitchen, Bambino Woodfire Pizza and Timboon Railway Shed Distillery as well as a string of live music acts.

Mr Thulborn said the events are partnering with Blue Whale and the Discovery Parks accommodation to offer a discount for those staying over the weekend.

Warrnambool mayor Tony Herbert is looking forward to a jam-packed weekend.

"It's fantastic to have back-to-back events at the one location. It makes it easier for people and is great use of the infrastructure," he said.

"In being Australia's most livable city, festivals are crucial. These events show how locals can enjoy our area and attract others as well.

"Looking at the statistics from council, last year this weekend saw an increase of 50 per cent in the dining and accommodation sectors of our Spendmapp.

"Our local economy receives a boost when people come to town and it's felt all through the retail, hospitality and accommodation sectors."
