EDMH is a one-stop shop for health care in far western Victoria, providing a range of on-site services, or acting as host to visiting services.
The expansion of aged care services at EDMH is an $8 million project, currently under construction with stage one set to be completed in March 2020.
The expansion will incorporate Lakes Hostel, which has 22 private, light-filled rooms positioned in a tranquil setting overlooking the beautiful Lake Wallace and the natural rural surrounds.
Each room has views of the lake with a comfortable height adjustable/electronically operated bed, built-in wardrobe, call bell, large windows and a spacious en suite.
Residents are encouraged to make their rooms more personal by incorporating familiar furnishings and displaying memorabilia.
Lakes Hostel includes a spacious, open-plan communal dining room and lounge area with large windows that also overlook the lake, where residents can dine, relax or join in a range of activities offered daily by the activities co-ordinator, care staff and volunteers.
Activities available to residents include:
- Games
- Beauty treatments
- Massage
- Music therapy
- Videos
- Men's groups
- Cooking
- Bus outings
- Arm-chair exercises
- Group discussions/reminiscing sessions
- Craft sessions
- Celebrating special occasions (eg. birthdays)
There is also an outdoor area for residents to enjoy the sunshine and outdoor activities.
Individual 24-hour care is provided by personal care workers and is overseen by the hospital's registered nurses, who liaise with medical officers and other allied health professionals to ensure the best care is provided.
Lakes Hostel is located on the same site as the EDMH, which provides a one-stop shop for health care in the community in order to minimise the amount of travel that people need to undertake to stay healthy.
The hostel residents have access to the huge range of services available to them on their doorstep, including:
- Adult day centre
- Medical clinic
- Social worker
- Psychologist
- Physiotherapist
- Dietician
- Podiatrist
- Dentist
- Optometrist
- Urgent care
- Radiology
- Audiology
- Speech pathology
- Occupational therapy
