Koroit police Sergeant Patrick Day said the 23-year-old man from Wendouree has had his licence suspended for six months and been fined $620 after he was caught speeding near Woolsthorpe.
"He was detected by Koroit police members travelling at a speed of 139kmh on the Heywood- Woolsthorpe road west of the Woolsthorpe township," he said.
"This is extremely stupid and dangerous behaviour. It was dark he was driving on a road unfamiliar to him.
"He told the Koroit police member that he was trying to knock some time off his journey as he had already driven for over three hours already.
"This is a classic example of driver behaviour that could well have led to a fatality or a serious injury," he said.
