Warrnambool City Council appointed Brand Architects as the design firm for the $11 million upgrade, and mayor Tony Herbert said the redeveloped oval would be a "great" regional sporting venue.
"It will be a premier facility," he said
"There's still a number of discussions to have with the user groups. Council is doing everything it can to make sure people are listened to. There are clubs that have been here a long time and we want to make sure we can accommodate everyone."
Footy, netball and cricket clubs will find alternative homes during the 18-month redevelopment. Reid Oval Project Control Group chair Sue Cassidy said the appointment of the design team was a major milestone.
"With the design team now confirmed, we can begin the process of determining specifics about the new and improved infrastructure at Reid Oval," she said.
"Representatives from Brand Architects will visit Warrnambool in the coming weeks to work with stakeholders to discuss how each aspect of the project might look and function.
User groups have made it very clear that they want to see an upgraded Reid Oval, and council is committed to working with them to do the job once and do it right."
Works are expected to begin in September 2020 and be completed in April 2022.
