Two free sessions will run on Friday, September 6 where participants will have the opportunity to dive into the world of virtual reality and learn the tricks of the trade with market-leading software.
South West TAFE teacher Richard Pritchard has been guiding his VETIS class of Year 11 and 12 students from around the region to create a character for the workshop using advanced technology. This process will be replicated through the workshops.
"The session will go through how 3D characters are made for films and games," he said.
"It will also be an introduction to the virtual world and be a chance for attendees to use the technology and software used in movies like The Great Gatsby and Mad Max: Fury Road.
"The workshop is aimed at anyone who can efficiently use a computer and has an interest in video games and learning visual effects.
"This art form can lead to many jobs as an animator, product developer, inventor, architect. This industry is a way to actually make anything your mind has imagined."
The VETIS class design BOB8U from scratch. The students have been able to use the same software professional animators use to create this character from the initial brainstorm to the completed project.
"The students gathered reference art that inspires them to design the concept," Mr Pritchard said.
"One student involved his Indigenous heritage by telling the character's story through the artwork on the arm.
"The way these students learnt to create BOB8U is the same process Marvel characters and robots in films are created."
Minecraft to Marvel workshop sessions will run at South West TAFE from 10am-12pm and 1-3pm with lunch included in between.
Bookings are essential via www.minecraft-to-marvel.eventbrite.com.au.
