Odour, appearance and taste will be crucial when judges set out to establish Victoria's best drop.
But it won't be wine, beer or spirits they will be swirling in their cups.Instead, water treatment plants from across the state will duke it out to have their tap water deemed the tastiest.
Judges will make the call at a water industry event in Bendigo on September 4, taking into account the water's colour, clarity, odour and how it feels in the mouth during blind tests.
The winner will go on to vie for the Australian title during National Water Week in October, against the top brass from other states.
Wannon Water in southwest Victoria is the defending state and national champion, with the tap water from their Hamilton Water Treatment Plant.
The Water Industry Operators Association of Australia is hosting the Ixom 2019 Best Tasting Tap Water competition, saying it's also aimed at raising awareness of the hard yards put in by water operators and maintenance crews.
