The Magpies did their part, demolishing Portland 69-32.
The cards then fell their way.
South Warrnambool lost to Warrnambool and Terang Mortlake went down to Cobden, eliminating both from the finals race with one round to play.
Camperdown coach Brooke Richardson said her side was excited about its elimination final in two weeks' time.
But she said its main priority was its round 18 clash against top-placed Cobden.
"It's a huge game for us. It sets the tone entering the finals race and it's important to remain focused," Richardson said.
"We have to take it one quarter at a time and implement game structures."
Amanda Clark was effective in goals for Camperdown on Saturday, draining 45.
Grace Lucas helped Clark with strong passing into the Magpies' attacking circle.
Reliable defender Emma Wright again received praise from Richardson for her steadying influence in the Magpies' back court.
