The 18-year-old Allansford woman, who The Standard has chosen not to name, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to weapon offences.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan said he would not record a conviction against the woman because she was a young person with no criminal history.
He said the woman came into possession of the gun through her association with other people.
But, he said the distribution and possession of guns without the appropriate licenses and permits was taken very seriously.
The court heard on April 15 police executed a search warrant at a property in Allansford where the woman was residing with two other people.
A mobile phone was seized and analysed. Police located a photograph and footage of the woman holding the shotgun, which was believed to be stolen as it didn't have a serial number.
The woman was arrested and exercised her right to silence.
Lawyer Xavier Farrelly told the court his client had taken "poorly chosen glamour shots" with the firearm.
He said she often hunted with her grandmother overseas but did not hold a gun licence in Australia.
In an unrelated matter, a Warrnambool woman who made her 10-year-old daughter steal close to $300 worth of goods from a store has been ordered to do unpaid community work. On December 12 the 45-year-old attended Gateway Plaza with her two children.
She told her daughter to climb under a sheet covering a stall and steal $280 worth of items.
The woman was arrested the follow day. She told police she had stolen about 12 items and was planning to give them to her family as Christmas presents.
She pleaded guilty to shop steal and was placed on a 12-month community corrections order with conditions she do 80 hours of unpaid community work.
