He was arrested during the weekend in relation to causing criminal damage.
Police then executed a search warrant at his home address about noon Sunday and found eight fully grown plants.
Each plant has a street value of about $2000.
The man was interviewed, charged with a range of drug-related offences and bailed to appear in the Portland Magistrates Court at a later date.
Police said it was quite a sophisticated set-up, including grow lights and transformers.
"He obviously knew what he was doing," Heywood police Sergeant Cal McKinnon said.
"Anyone with information about drugs is requested to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," he said.
