Detective Sergeant Andrew Raven, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said an incident was reported to police soon after 8.30pm Thursday.
He said a woman had gone to a Fleetwood Court home in east Warrnambool armed with knives, a set of knuckle dusters and a broom.
She is alleged to have banged on a window, no one was home and she then smashed a window in an attempt to gain entry to the property.
"It's alleged she tried to get into the house," he said.
"She's gone to the property in possession of a knife and with another knife in a bag."
Police officers attended, wrestled with the woman and arrested her.
She was taken to the Warrnambool Base Hospital with injuries to a hand consistent with smashing the window.
The woman was treated and spent the night at hospital before being released into police custody this morning.
Detective Sergeant Raven said the woman was about to be interviewed.
Depending on the interview the woman could be charged with a range of offences including causing criminal damage, burglary, aggravated burglary and weapons offences.
