Rohan collided with Demon wing defence Kelly Gowland in the opening stages of the match and was taken to hospital for assessment.

The Lions struggled without their mentor with their 73-35 defeat ending their Warrnambool and District league finals chances.

The Demons secured a finals berth with one round to play.

Rohan said she was "pretty sore at the moment" and would return to hospital on Monday to find out the extent of her injury.

"They (medical professionals) said not to play next week," she said.

"It will be a tough one for us as East Warrnambool aren't too bad."

Rohan said the Lions had performed well this season.

"I am pretty proud actually," she said.

"We had to fight for it yesterday and unfortunately we went down by a bit.

"I didn't see the game but the girls gave me a rundown. We stuck with them but our scoring wasn't there."

Timboon Demons coach Leah Sinnott conceded "things went in our favour unfortunately for them".

"Jess went down in the first five minutes or so and didn't come back on and she makes a massive difference to their side which was already depleted without their shooter (Rhi Davis)," she said.

"We still played well and did things we've been working on quite well.

"They didn't lay down when Jess went off. They still contested everything but didn't have the x-factor."

Sinnott said it was a relief to secure a top-five spot and expects the Demons to take confidence into their final home and away match against reigning premier Nirranda - a team it beat earlier this season.

The Blues will be coming off a strong win against fellow top-five side Merrivale.

Merrivale playing coach Carly Peake took a future-focused approach to her side's encounter with Nirranda on Saturday.

The Tigers started well but couldn't keep pace with Nirranda which took a 44-27 victory at Merrivale Recreation Reserve.

Peake said she used the game to try different combinations.

"We just wanted to look at what things potentially would work, match-ups, all those sorts of things," she said.

"So we were happy to toy around today and look at a few different options."

The Tigers have already secured a finals spot but must beat Kolora-Noorat on Saturday to lock up second position.

Peake was tight-lipped on which combinations she thought worked well.

"There were a few things that we liked and a few things that we didn't," she said.

But the Tigers mentor said her team would need to clean up its ball use.

"We struggled in patches again today to use the ball effectively," she said.

Peake, who was influential under the ring in the first half, didn't play the second half.

She said she wasn't sure if she would be playing full finals matches.

"Look, we'll just take it as it comes," she said.

"Probably not.

"The plan was always for me to come off at half-time."

Nirranda playing coach Steph Townsend said her side had to come up with ways to stop Peake.

"She's a really steady head, she's got a lot of experience in Hampden (league)," she said.

"Her ability in the ring to manipulate our defenders was really good, to be able to pass the ball off and capitalise on those opportunities for them.

"We put a little bit of work into Carly and how we could shut her run down and I thought our girls handled that really well."

Townsend said she experimented with her team too.

"I put Georgia Haberfield into the centre just to see how she'd go," she said.

"I thought she handled that really well."

"I switched our defenders around a little bit as well."

In other games, Old Collegians defeated Allansford 70-36, Dennington scored a 30-goal win over East Warrnambool and Russells Creek was too good for Panmure 66-49.
