HAMILTON SHEEP & LAMBS
July 31. Yarding: 4481. Change: down 978. Lambs: 2201. Change: down 1932. Sheep: 2280. Change: 954.
Lamb numbers at Hamilton halved this week to 2201 head, with a small increase in sheep numbers to 2280 head for a combined total of 4481 head.
Quality was not the same as last week's sale, however all the regular buyers were in attendance and operated on a firm to cheaper market, depending on quality. The 3 and 4 score lambs sold firm, however lighter lambs eased by up to 30c/kg, as there was little to no store competition for lambs this week. The sheep yarding saw strong restocker competition and consisted of 70-80% Merinos, with the remainder comprising of crossbred ewes that sold to an overall cheaper trend of 10c/kg cwt. Light weight 12-18kg lambs 1 and 2 score sold from $80 to $164, while the medium weights 18-22kg 3 and 4 scores made from $139 to $206/head, to average from 950c to 1,000c/kg.
The heavy weight lambs 22-26kg made from $186 to $239, averaging from 952c to 990c, while the extra heavy lambs sold to $245/head, to average 840c/kg. Hoggets made from $148 to $195/head. Sheep numbers increased this week to 2,280 head, with the majority consisting of 1 to 3 score Merinos.

COLAC CATTLE
August 1. Yarding: 195. Change: down 26.
There were some very good quality young cattle included in an otherwise plain quality yarding. Numbers reduced to 195 head which predominantly sold to the usual field of buyers.
Demand was stronger from restockers, which put pressure on the processors to pay more to secure the better quality.
These better vealers and yearlings sold from 10c to 30c dearer, but the plainer and under finished young cattle were from 15c to 20c/kg cheaper.
Grown heifers and cows were from 10c to 15c/kg cheaper, and the three heavy weight bulls sold at unchanged prices.
The yarding comprised of 4 manufacturing grown steers, 27 grown heifers, 70 young cattle, 91 cows and 3 bulls. The better C muscled young cattle made from 300c to 325c, with restockers paying to 326c/kg.
The plainer C muscled yearlings made from 240c and most plain D1 and D2 yearlings sold from 180c to 225c/kg.
The C3 grown heifers were from 250c to 270c, with C2 scores selling at 230c, 237c and 250c/kg.
Restockers paid from 271c to 280c/kg for their C2 replacements.
