The new retail store in Warrnambool's industrial estate is offering an eclectic collection of recycled, restored and re-purposed items, while building Western District Employment Access employees' retail skills.
Manager Paul Hughes said the new WDEA Works Enterprises business would increase employment opportunities for staff.
"It's a brand new initiative on the Albert Street site where we have over 110 supported employees," he said.
"We are trying to offer a more sustainable and better experience for their work and give them retail experience. It's something we are pretty excited about."
He said another benefit of the shop was the diversion of products from landfill to new homes.
"All items have been donated and collected from our community," he said. "We are providing an opportunity for it to get a second or third life."
The 'Big Rs' stand for reuse, recycle, re-purpose and restore. Mr Hughes said the shop would open Monday to Friday from 8.30am-3.30pm.
"There will be about 10 to 12 employees working at the start but we hope to bring a whole lot more of our team through," he said.
"It's about opening up what we do here at 11 Albert Street to the community. There are a lot of other good businesses we have here such as e-waste and other businesses."
The shed is filled with books, DVDs, toys, sporting goods, gifts, furniture, electrical goods, prints and frames, homewares, employee artwork and bags of rags.
"People can come and donate some resell-able stuff here," Mr Hughes said. "We can't take everything but we are more than happy to have a look at anything."
WDEA's Jack Melican said the shed gave employees further skills training.
"The most important thing in establishing this business is giving our employees training in retail, which they didn't have previously," he said.
