There's a very high (95%) chance of showers with the chance of hail and thunder this afternoon and evening.
Winds will be westerly 35 to 45 km/h.
Warrnambool is expecting a top temperature of 13 degrees, Hamilton 11, Colac 12, Ararat 11, Casterton 12, Mortlake 12, Heywood 12, Portland 13, Port Fairy 14, Terang 11 and Camperdown just 10.
At 7am it was a balmy 11 degrees, felt like a not bad 6.5 and since 9am Thursday we have received 5.4mm of rain.
But, there's still a severe weather warning for damaging winds covering most of the south-west.
A westerly airflow will continue across the state on Friday with a front expected to pass through Bass Strait during the morning.
Damaging west to north-westerly winds averaging 60 to 70km/h with peak gusts of 90km/h are likely near the coast and also over elevated areas (above 800 metres) of Victoria, including the Grampians, the Otway Ranges and Strzelecki Ranges.
There's expected gusts to 90km/h may extend inland over the south-west for a period during this afternoon, most likely with any passing showers or thunderstorms.
Blizzard conditions are likely over Alpine areas with heavy snowfalls, particularly this afternoon and evening.
While some easing is expected by this evening, there is the the risk of further damaging winds during the weekend, mainly over coastal and Alpine areas.
Locations which may be affected include Hamilton, Warrnambool, Portland, Wonthaggi, Falls Creek and Omeo.
Strongest wind gusts to 5am Friday include: Mount William 100km/h at 12:26am, Mount Hotham 100km/h at 4:42am, Wilsons Promontory 93km/h at 2:38am and Cape Nelson 89km/h at 1:03am.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony; and
- Keep clear of fallen power lines.
There's also still a gale marine warning for west coast and sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and fresh to strong north-west to westerly winds are expected during Friday, with south-westerly winds on Saturday.
Areas likely to be affected include the south-west, Wimmera, North Central, North East, Central and West and South Gippsland forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
A cold front embedded in a strong westerly airflow will pass across Victoria today.
Further cold fronts are expected to move from the Southern Ocean across Tasmania, clipping southern Victoria as they head towards the Tasman Sea over the next few days.
Meanwhile, a large high pressure system south of Western Australia will drift only slowly eastwards over the weekend and will be centred just west of the Bight on Monday.
Warrnambool is expecting showers for the next seven days with tops between 11 and 14 degrees.
