The 35-year-old fired a even round of 70 to remain four-under the card and tied for 36th after two rounds at the TPC River Highlands Golf Club in Connecticut.
Sucher, the world number 505, shot a five-under 65 to sit two clear on top of the leaderboard at the half-way point.
His fellow countrymen Chez Reavie and Keegan Bradley are tied for second at nine-under with Ryan Moore and Bronson Burgoon are tied for fourth one shot further back.
Leishman's second round included two bogeys on the first nine before storming home on the back nine with two birdies.
He hit 9 of 14 fairways and 13 of 18 greens in regulation as he stayed well clear of the cut.
