A Powercor spokeswoman said a high voltage lead was disconnected along the Cobden-Port Campbell Road in the high winds.
"There is a crew onsite now and we expect power will be back on at 12.30pm," she said.
"At this stage wind is being blamed but there's no definite answer on the cause."
A transformer also had to be changed on the Princes Highway at Port Fairy.
Power was to be restored by 11am and only a small number of customers were without electricity.
The cause of the problem is still being investigated.
