Sam Kelly, who has been in the Roosters best four times this season, was helped from the ground during the second quarter of his team's 13.7 (85) to 8.14 (62) win over Camperdown.

Kelly, who did not return to the field, will get scans for what is suspected to be an ankle injury.

Coach Mat Battistello said it was a big blow to lose Kelly.

"Really disappointed for Sam, obviously he's been in great form," he said.

"We'll wait for the scans and see what comes back, we're hopeful it's not too bad."

Big man Manny Sandow, who was best on ground, rucked most the match in Kelly's absence.

Tim Brown's day was also over soon after quarter-time with hamstring tightness.

Battistello said he had taken a precautionary approach to Brown's injury.

Brad Miller joined the injury list late in the game.

Battistello said it looked like Miller had got a kick to the hand and was hopeful he would be right next week.

"It looked like it was a break but the doctor has given it the all clear at this particular point," he said.

Camperdown lost one of its key players in the second quarter as well with Matthew Field missing the rest of the match re-injuring his hamstring.

Co-coach Neville Swayn said it was a significant loss.

"He's our vice-captain and probably one of the best wingers in the comp, so he's probably going to be another couple of weeks out now, I would have thought," he said.

James Byrne also sustained a hamstring injury late in the game and could miss next Saturday's clash against Portland.

Aside from the injury toll, it was a cracking match at Friendly Societies Park.

Camperdown, which dominated the first quarter, jumped to a 20-point lead at the first break.

South Warrnambool evened it up in the second to be a goal ahead at half-time.

The Magpies blitzed the Roosters in the third term to take a 17-point advantage into the final quarter.

Then Shannon Beks arrived.

Beks proved himself a match-winner, kicking four final quarter goals and setting up others.

Battistello was pleased with Beks' overall performance.

"I thought Shannon was reasonably consistent all day," he said.

The Roosters mentor said his players cleaned up their delivery to Beks in the final quarter.

"He's in great form at the moment," he said.

"All our boys have got 100 per cent confidence to kick the ball to him, even when he is in a one-on-one contest.

"A lot of his body work was outstanding."

Battistello said it was great Beks stood up but he doesn't want to rely on him.

"On reflection you don't want to leave it to one player to kick five goals in the last quarter to get you over the line," he said.

Swayn said Beks, who also kicked seven goals last week, played well in the final quarter.

"He's probably one of the in-form forwards of the comp at the minute and the supply was pretty good," he said.

"Sometimes it's not all the backs fault with how easy it's coming in there."

Swayn rued his side's third quarter, in which it kicked three goals and six behinds.

"We probably had our opportunities and didn't hurt them on the scoreboard enough," he said.
