The 35-year-old shot a one-under-par 71 to keep in contact with joint leaders American Troy Merritt (66), Germany's Martin Kaymer (68) and South Korea's Kyoung-Hoon Lee (67), who are three shots ahead on nine-under the card.
Leishman now sits tied for 10th with Americans Andrew Putnam and Austin Cook and Englishmen Danny Willett and Justin Rose on six-under.
The World No.24's second round included two birdies on the par-5 seventh and par-4 17th holes and a bogey on the par-4 10th.
Leishman, who hit 14 of 18 greens in regulation, is joined by fellow countryman Adam Scott in the top ten.
Scott, who fired a six-under 66 round, is one shot ahead of the Warrnambool export in a tie for fifth.
