Brauer College drama teacher Paul McFadden said the students were taking charge of the staging, costuming, lighting and sound effects for the production.
"A lot of it is directed at the kids making decision for the show," Mr McFadden said.
"They have been rehearsing for three months for the performance, getting everything right.
"It all seems to work better when the students have ownership of the show."
The new show, written by Mr McFadden, is a non-linear tale about a young television star who has to return to a regular school when he leaves his show.
"The whole play is about fame," he said.
"It starts on the first day of school and then has flashbacks to his time on the television show.
"You start off hating Billy (the main character) but by the end you have a great deal of sympathy for him."
Mr McFadden said 69 Brauer students were involved with the cast and crew for the production.
"We have nine Year 12 students who are involved in their final performance," he said.
"There is an equal number of Year 7 and 12 students, there is always new kids coming through.
"The students become really protective of each other, with the Year 12 students mentoring younger students with the different decisions that need to be made for the performance.
"It's not about the age or the year level anymore, it about being part of something.
"If it's not run by the kids it shouldn't be run"
Tickets for the performance are available from the Brauer College office or on the door. Public performances will be held on Thursday 23 and Friday 24, with the show commencing at 7.30pm.
