Kenedna ridden by Irish born jockey John Allen defeated the Chris Waller trained Life Less Ordinary and Sixties Groove in the 2000 metre race.
Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace only took over the training of Kenedna in February after her previous trainer Darren Weir was disqualified.
The Warrnambool export acknowledged the training deeds of Weir with Kenedna.
"Kenedna came to us in top condition, I've got to give credit to Weiry," he said.
"She's a very good mare.
"She's really developed and is now a valuable broodmare.
"We had targeted her at the Doomben Cup and she's won it.
"It's a very rewarding result for her owners and our staff.
"It was a super ride by John.
"The reason for her failure last time was because of the heavy track.
"She races better on good tracks."
Stewards found Allen guilty of a careless riding charge after his ride on Kenedna.
He was suspended for 13 meetings.
The training partnership of Maher and Eustace began in August last year.
They capped off a big day when Etana gave the stable a running double, winning the group 2 $200,000 The Roses.
