The second-placed Warriors found themselves down by two-points at half-time against ninth-placed Russells Creek on Saturday in the Warrnambool and District league.
Collegians lifted in the second half to to run out 17.13 (115) to 12.3 (75) winners at Mack Oval.
Sheehan said his side could have been better when Creek had the run of play.
"It's what we do when the momentum is not with us," he said.
The playing coach said it came down to "work rate" and being prepared to run both ways.
Russells Creek booted four goals and kept the Warriors to one-goal in the second quarter.
Sheehan said Creek was beating his side with its run and spread.
But the Warriors mentor said his team switched on after the main break.
"We had a lot more movement around the ground and played with more intensity and purpose," he said.
The Warriors mentor made moves on his clipboard at half-time.
Forward Josh Reichman swung back while returning star Izaac Dwyer went from the back line to the attacking end.
Sheehan was pleased with how they both played in the second half.
He said Dwyer "was busy around the forward line" while Reichman was "really good off half back".
These changes helped see the Warriors outscore Creek, 10 goals to four in the second half.
Sheehan said his side escaped from the clash without any injuries.
Old Collegians faces Panmure next while Russells Creek has Dennington.
