Work on the new roof, designed to keep bowlers dry and protected from the sun, finished mid-April but patterned concreting, retaining walls, an alfresco dining area and a replaced green are still underway.

Club general manager Julie Dosser said once completed, Warrnambool would boast the only Victorian bowls club to have two undercover greens.

"It seems to be a real talking point around Warrnambool at the moment," Ms Dosser said.

Dozens of contractors are now working to have the club-funded $2.5 to $3 million upgrade complete by August before the pennant season begins in October.

"There is a little bit of a hold-up with the weather and concreting, otherwise it is all progressing along really smoothly," Ms Dosser said.

"I think people are very excited over the project and happy to wait until it is completed."

The club hopes the upgrades will attract a wider demographic to bowls with new lights in the roof offering opportunities for casual night games.

"By being able to have bowls at night, we might be able to attract a different demographic of people to bowls," Ms Dosser said.

"They may only come down for a game that will go for an hour-and-a-half. A quick short game that might attract some younger people."

The upgrade is the biggest for the club since it built a new club house at the Cramer Street site in 2002.
