The event, which included a three or four-kilometre walk and a seven-kilometre run along the promenade, is an annual fund-raiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Judy Rantall, the co-chair of the event committee, said there was a great turnout.
She said many survivors and even people battling cancer took part.
Mrs Rantall said the team Walk for Elsa raised the most amount of money for research, with a total of $616.99.
She has been involved in the event for many years as her grandmother died from breast cancer in 1981 and her mother and sister had lumps from their breasts removed.
"It's a very special day," Mrs Rantall said.
"It's important to pass on to the community to be vigilant."
Mrs Rantall said the event had gone from strength to strength over the past decade.
