And given he's a Sandgroper, perhaps it's not too surprising that he nominates fellow West Australian Steve Pateman as his pick for the Grand Annual Steeplechase's greatest jockey.
Combing the archives in his mind, Mr Carpenter proposed Sir Pentire's 2009 Grand Annual win as the greatest, particularly given the NZ jumper hadn't been seen on a racetrack for two years prior!
