The Hobart-based part-owner scored his first winner at the event when No Money No Honey claimed a benchmark 64 handicap on Wednesday.
He described the result as "unbelievable".
"I bought her out of a paddock. I paid $3000 for her out the back of Nar Nar Goon," he said.
"There's about four or five of us (with shares). I bought it and then syndicated it."
No Money No Honey, trained by Cranbourne's Richard Laming, had Jamie Kah in the saddle.
Warrnambool-trained Hostar - one of Peter Chow's runners - finished the 1700m race in second.
