The Standard spotted him in the public grandstand in front of the Matilda Room on day one of the May Racing Carnival.
The Collie man has come to the race with five of his closest mates and has to wear the "embarrassing" gold jacket and tie as he is the losing punter out of his group of mates.
Every year the group of friends pick out a race meeting and the loser at the end has to wear the golden jacket to the following year's meet.
Last year the group travelled to Hong Kong.
"We have a punting syndicate and whoever collects the least amount of money over a 12 month period has the honour of wearing the jacket," Mr Hansen said.
"I'm the unlucky punter this year."
He said the group had previously been to the carnival about four years ago.
"We're here for all three days," he said.
"It's a very nice place and a beautiful course. We love the place. On tomorrow or Thursday I'll go up to the top of the hill and watch the jumps from up there."
