Acting Sergeant Michael Vaughan said a man was caught driving after leaving a nightclub in Hamilton and recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.210.
"This morning at 2.46am on Goldsmith Street a 21-year-old Hamilton male on his P-plates was intercepted," Acting Sergeant Vaughan said.
"He blew positive and came back to the station and gave a reading of 0.210 which is a four-and-a-bit times the legal limit.
"He is meant to be double zero on his P-plates."
The man's licence was immediately suspended for 12 months and his car was impounded.
He will now receive a summons to appear at the Hamilton Magistrates Court.
"Double zero definitely means zero," Acting Sergeant Vaughan said.
"We will be patrolling outside the nightclubs.
"Coming out of a nightclub you certainly stick out."
