Portland police Sergeant Tim Chester said the 43-year-old man was arrested at a property in Portland's Rundell Avenue on Wednesday morning.
"Police arrived to find a female victim had suffered minor facial injuries as a result of an assault," he said.
"The man charged with that assault as well as breaching an intervention order and also a corrections order".
Sergeant Chester said the man was placed on the community corrections order after he was charged with burglaries, thefts and contravening a family violence intervention order.
"He was directed straight to Hamilton Magistrates Court where he made a self-represented bail application, which was a failure," he said.
"The man was remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.
"This should be a message to the community that we treat all family violence reports very seriously and those who commit offences will be remanded.
"We are not going to accept that sort of behaviour in our community."
