Patient Eye Imaging photographed a spectacular display over the Twelve Apostles about 8.50pm in a time-lapse image.
Warrnambool photographer Josh Beames noticed the storm coming through on Friday and decided to stay at Stingray Bay rather than heading further down the coast.
He said he'd always wanted to get a lightning shot of the islands at Stingray Bay, and on Friday night he was in luck.
The first shot he took was of a bolt of lightning between the two islands.
The wind and rain then moved in, but he was able to get two more shots before he was forced to take shelter in his car.
Mr Beames said he was "just so stoked" with the images he'd captured.
However, he said his camera gear did get drenched during the 10-minute storm.
