New coach Jaime Barr started her tenure on a positive note at Bushfield on Saturday with the Eagles' barnstorming 18-goal to six opening term setting the tone.
But Barr believes her team, which recorded a 68-40 victory, can improve as the Hampden league netball season progresses.
"They ran out the game really well but there's definitely things we can work on," she said.
"Our concentration on things we've planned to do. You do that at a start of a quarter when a coach has given you an instruction really well and then you start to forget it as you get tired.
"It was just a great first quarter where we put into place some of our plays we've been working on and the girls remarked 15-minute quarters are really long (to) start the year."
MORE NETBALL:
Barr was pleased with the Eagles' fast start which enabled them to stick to a pre-game rotation plan.
"We had a bit of a plan going into the game in terms of who we'd bring on and off the bench and we managed to put that in place," she said.
"There were a couple of girls who played div one who were going to come on at half-time and we managed to do that and we rotated our goal circle, defensive and midcourt so that was really good."
Barr said "the old girl" Elisha Carter led the way in the midcourt while Skye Billings sank 37 goals.
"Elisha played a bit of a different role for us today but just dogged determination really stood out in round one," she said.
The Eagles play 2018 grand finalist Cobden in round two.
