Allansford recruit Paddy Higgins, 19, has been putting in a bit of extra preparation for his Warrnambool and District Football Netball League debut at the Warrnambool-based campus where he lives.
The first-year commerce student said he was thrilled to be pulling on the Cats jumper for the first time.
"I'm a bit nervous but I'm excited to experience something new," he said.
Allansford takes on the Timboon Demons, who enjoyed a 22-point victory over Panmure last Saturday.
Higgins grew up in Ararat and has played with Moyston-Willaura in the Mininera and District Football League since he was 14.
The wingman, who played senior footy last season, said he moved to Warrnambool two months ago to study at Deakin University.
He said his mate Mitch Broome had convinced him to have a run with the Cats.
"So I went out there and loved it," he said.
He said the club had made him feel welcome since he started training two months ago.
"They accepted me with arms wide open and embraced me and it was quite a simple move in the end actually," he said.
Higgins said he was looking forward to running around in the blue and white hoops.
"The basis of my game has always been running and getting out in free space," he said.
Cats coach Ben Price said he was excited to have Higgins as part of his team.
"He's a really good kick," he said.
"He has good ball skills and a fair bit of pace."
The Cats will be looking to build on their 2018 seventh-placed finish.
