Formerly trained by Darren Weir, Labuan Star is now in the care of Warrnambool trainer Daniel Bowman.
The six-year-old, who has won three of his five first-up runs, lines up in an 1100-metre race at Victoria's major race meeting for the day.
"Labuan Star has trialled up well," Bowman said.
"He's got an incredible first-up record winning three and filling the minor placings on two other occasions.
"I'm expecting him to run well but in saying that I'm still learning about the horse.
"We're lucky we've got Declan Bates on board. Declan has done a bit of work on Labuan Star.
"It's always handy if the jockey has some knowledge of the horse and Declan is riding in great form."
The early betting markets have installed Labuan Star as a $20 chance of winning the race.
Fellow Warrnambool trainer Symon Wilde saddles up Dodging Bullets, Gold Medals and Maxey Campo on the strong nine-race program while Aaron Purcell's runners are Guizot, Zebulon and Instigator.
The powerful Ciaron Maher-David Eustace stable has numerous runners including Last Week, Groot and Thick Music.
Yogi runs in the $1.5 million Tancred Stakes at Rosehill for the Maher-Eustace combination.
