At a marathon meeting in the town on Tuesday evening passionate residents informed councillors the situation needed to be fixed and more parking was needed as the town continued to grow.

More than 15 people made public submissions to the council, with many suggesting land at the back of the surf club and on Morris Street was suitable for more parking.

Business owners raised concerns about widening the footpath on Lord Street, the town's main thoroughfare, and narrowing the road. 

Most businesses do not have rear access for deliveries, and residents were concerned about congestion and vehicle and pedestrian safety. 

Concerns were also raised about the location of disabled parking. 

The council adopted the Port Campbell Town Centre Project concept plan and reassured residents the final designs would consider community input.

Councillor Simon Illingworth acknowledged the plan needed to consider future growth for the town.

"Without a doubt Port Campbell has a dilemma," he said.

"It cannot cope with the large number of vehicles. We seem to be multi-tasking in the extreme with the land we have."

Cr Illingworth said disabled parking would be catered for,

"It is as simple as that," he said.

"(The plan) will alter to fit in."

Councillor Jo Beard said the council took on board all resident's comments.

"There has been a lot of different views around the whole process," she said.

"Engaging with the community is helping us." 

The councillors all stressed the concept plan was not the final design for the streetscape.

Plans show there will be a reduction of 11 parks on Lord Street, however there will be an overall increase of 29 parks, taking the total in the town to 274.  

Councillors also approved a planning permit for a new microbrewery in the town at 26 Lord Street.

An amended motion from Cr Illingworth saw permission granted for a 250 seat venue, without an outdoor area.
