Peter and Thomas Roberts have been selected in the Aussie squad and find out early next year if they will be skiing for the nation in April 2020.
Peter said he and his son were honoured to be in the mix.
"It's great to be selected," he said.
"Thomas is pretty excited."
It's the first time Thomas has been selected in the Australian squad and the second time Peter has made the cut.
Peter said the Aussie team takes four skiers and two reserves in both seniors and juniors.
Thomas, 14, is up against teenagers older than him for a spot.
The youngster is likely to undertake a few junior training camps before national selections are made.
Thomas started barefoot water-skiing when he was about six years old and began competitions was he was about eight.
The Roberts have just enjoyed outstanding success at the barefoot water-ski national championships at Mulwala last week.
Thomas came third overall in the sub junior boys and got a bronze medal in the tricks event.
Peter won overall in the seniors men's and took gold in the jumps, tricks and slalom events.
Meanwhile, Peter's brother Brett won overall in the men's one division and claimed gold in the tricks and slalom events.
He also took bronze in the jumps event.
Slalom involves skiing from one side of the wash to the other side of the wash, over and over.
The wash is created by the boat pulling the skier.
