A Hawkesdale man who stole $5000 worth of sound equipment from his father and sold it at Cash Converters has been ordered to do 75 hours of unpaid community work.
Aidan James Rodda, 31, of Hawkesdale, appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates Court charged with theft and persistently breaching a family violence intervention order.
Magistrate Jon Klesdadt said the circumstances of the offending was significant, particularly the theft.
"I hope you can repair your relationship with your father through ongoing engagement with corrections," he said.
Rodda was placed on a 12-month community corrections order with conditions he do 75 hours of unpaid community work as well as assessment and treatment for his mental health and drug addiction.
Between February 13 and 24 Rodda was staying at his father's Warrnambool property when he stole sound equipment, including five microphones, three PA systems and other sound equipment.
Rodda's father returned home to find the equipment missing and a Cash Converter's ticket left behind.
He rang police, who attended Cash Converter's and confirmed Rodda had traded the items in for $970.
The items were returned to the victim.
Then between March 2 and March 5 Rodda sent over 100 text messages to his former partner despite a court imposed order preventing him from contacting her.
Police said the messages included verbal threats against the victim's new partner.
Rodda attended the Warrnambool police station in relation to unrelated matters and was arrested on Monday.
He was ordered to pay $970 restitution to Cash Converters.
Earlier: A 31-year-old Hawkesdale man has been remanded in custody to appear in court after being charged with stealing sound equipment valued at about $5000.
Warrnambool police Sergeant Tom Morris said the man was arrested on Monday and charged with the thefts and breaching court orders.
Police alleged that between February 13 and 24 the man took music sound equipment, including five microphones, three PA systems and other sound equipment, which he traded in at Cash Converters for $970.
The breaches of intervention orders are alleged to have not involved physical contact.
The man attended at the Warrnambool police station on Monday in relation to unrelated traffic matters.
He was arrested, interviewed, charged and remanded in custody on the theft charges to appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court for a bail/remand hearing on Tuesday.
In Portland district a 26-year-old man has been remanded in custody man until April 9 charged with trafficking and possessing ice.
Detective Sergeant Jason von Tunk, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said officers raided a home in Denhill Court, Bolwarra, last Friday and found 12 grams of ice valued at $5000.
As well as the ice, police found cash and a small amount of cannabis.
Two brothers, aged 23 and 26 years old, were arrested.
The older brother was interviewed, charged with trafficking ice and remanded in custody by a magistrate.
The younger brother was changed with drug offences and bailed to appear in the Portland Magistrates Court on June 4.
On Monday police officers executed a warrant at a Hood Street address in Portland.
They found cash, cannabis and one gram of ice.
A 42-year-old man was arrested and interviewed by Southern Grampians divisional response unit officers.
He was charged with drug offences and released on bail to appear at the Portland court on June 4.
