Gaye McVilly and Brad Burkitt were delighted to discover they had won the plain pie category at the Victorian Baking Show on the weekend.
"We won first place in plain pie, which means we have the best plain pie in Victoria," Mr Burkitt said.
He said it was a great honour because the category was hotly contested.
"The plain pie is one of the most heavily contested categories because it's a staple of bakeries," Mr Burkitt said.
The secret to the pie's delicious taste, Mr Burkitt said, was all about the pastry.
"It has to have thin pastry - crispy but not hard and flaky on top."
Mr Burkitt said the bakery sold between 80 and 100 plain pies on a busy day.
