The eight-time Terang Golf Club A grade champion - he won his third in a row on Saturday - can see the constant improvement in his two eldest sons, George, 15, and Fred, 13.
Phil, 41, played in the club's top-grade four-round championships with George, who finished tied for second with Greg Carbis, while Fred finished second to Stephen Arundell in the B grade race.
Both boys, who are students at Mercy Regional College, won their respective grade handicaps, with Fred also taking out overall handicap honours.
Phil plays off three, George 10 and Fred 17.

The father-of-four said golf was now a family affair.
"It makes it easier to get to golf if two kids are playing and it's going to be reasonably competitive for a while before they start beating me convincingly," Phil said.
Phil took an unassailable lead into the final round of the A grade title.
He finished with a four-round total of 306 - 24 shots clear of his son and Carbis.
"I was leading comfortably and the bloke who was running second (Josh Brown) hurt himself and couldn't play so I was leading by about 20 (shots) going into the final round," he said.
"I didn't play well today. Playing early made the heat bareable and by the time we finished it was starting to get hot."

Beasley said it was humbling to etch his name onto the Terang club's honourboard for an eighth time.
"It's definitely a thrill and I know we have quite a few juniors coming through and the young ones are starting to improve a lot and you take it each (championship) when you can get them because they are going to start beating me sooner rather than later," he said.
Arundell saluted in B grade with 349 shots while Peter Hrabar (385) won C grade from Gordon Watkins (391).
