The theme for the World Hearing Day 2019 set by the World Health Organisation (WHO) is early identification and intervention for hearing loss.
Tim Rayner Audiology is heavily involved with this work throughout Western Victoria as they run an early diagnosis clinic for new born infants.
Hearing loss can be detected in the first few weeks of life. The Victoria Infant Hearing Screening program (VIHSP) screens all infants at birth in hospital, or as an outpatient in the first week or two of life. Infants who do not pass such a screening are referred to Rayner Audiology clinics for free assessments.
Infants undergo testing utilising electrodes placed on the infants head and then neural reactions to sound stimulus are recorded. These results with other tests allow the team of audiologists to evaluate hearing levels and to diagnose problems.
Referrals are then made for rehabilitation and possible fitting of hearing aids for these infants. The earlier the diagnosis, the better chance these infants have. Tim Rayner’s team of audiologists see this work as their most challenging, but also the most important.
It is also true (as documented by WHO) that detecting hearing loss and ear diseases early can lead to better outcomes. Assessments are available for anyone at any age, at the network of Tim Rayner Audiology clinics across Western Victoria.
Five university fully qualified audiologists provide services through Tim Rayner Audiology with clinics in Warrnambool, Hamilton, Horsham, Portland, Timboon and Terang. The fitting of appropriate hearing systems is seen as a program, rather than just a delivery of a product. Tim Rayner Audiology will help you throughout the life of the devices and support your rehabilitation.
In July 2018 Tim Rayner Audiology were able to fit a new Danish hearing aid called the Evoke, which was the first time this was undertaken in Australia. This aid is unique in that it learns your behaviours and environments and adjusts to your preferences. This is termed Machine Learning, and results from the past six months have been very pleasing for both patients and clinicians.
At Tim Rayner Audiology they continue to service our region with the latest and highest level of products and care. To help you, we will listen.
