Organised with Sustainability Victoria, people can drop off a range of home, garden, garage and pool chemicals in an environmentally friendly manner.
The collection point will be at the Warrnambool Livestock Exchange, on Caramut Road, from 9.00am until 3.00pm on Saturday March 3.
Some items cannot be left at the collection point. These including fluorescent tubes, compact fluorescent lights, paint, and all batteries.
Warrnambool City Council waste officer Kate McInnes said many items could now be disposed for free at Statewide Recycling on Koroit Street.
"There is a permanent detox site at Statewide Recycling which will take paint, compact fluorescent lights and household batteries all year around," she said.
"You still go through the gatehouse, but tell (the staff) that you have one of these items and then you can dispose of that item for free at the permanent detox site."
Sustainability Victoria’s Director of Waste and Resource Recovery Matt Genever said people found chemicals they no longer used when cleaning out their garage, shed or kitchen.
"It’s much safer to bring those hazardous items to a detox collection and make your homes a little bit safer,” he said.
Mr Genever suggested people should be careful when travelling with chemicals to the disposal site.
"Make sure that lids and containers are closely properly and put containers in a tray or plastic bucket to avoid spills in the car."
“Considering we are dealing with some hazardous items, it’s best that you leave the kids at home on the day too.”
