A shed in Mortlake containing farm machinery, a vehicle and other items was completely destroyed by fire on Sunday night.
CFA district five rostered duty officer Richard Bourke said the fire occurred at a Mortlake residence and no one was home at the time.
Mr Bourke said the shed and items inside were completely destroyed.
"It was confined to the one building and general contents were farm machinery, a vehicle and some other small items such as a ride-on mower and things like that,” Mr Bourke said.
It took CFA crews from Mortlake, Ellerslie, Warrnambool and Noorat about an hour to control the blaze.
“Once the fire was out they did the recovery and made sure the scene was safe but there was no one there overnight.”
He said the value of the items lost in the fire was unknown. “I don't have the age of the tractor or the shed so I don't have an attached value for it. Investigations are being done this afternoon to find out the cause if they can,” he said.
Mortlake residents reported smelling burning rubber on Sunday night which Mr Bourke said would be due to the farm machinery and vehicle catching alight.

The cause of a shed fire in Mortlake, which took CFA crews almost an hour to control on Sunday night, will be investigated.
CFA district five rostered duty officer Richard Bourke said four units responded to reports of a shed fire at a Scott Street address.
“The shed fire was reported in Mortlake just after 8pm,” Mr Bourke said. “A number of brigades attended, Mortlake, Ellerslie, Warrnambool and Noorat.
“I don’t know if its a home or not. I know it's a shed fire but I don't know if it’s a residential address or whether it’s a commercial address.”
He said it took roughly an hour to control the blaze. “By the time the crews got on scene, they got on scene pretty quick with support from the local brigades so it was a good fire attack.
“I’ll get some more details from the incident controller but it hasn’t been reported that there were any other buildings involved, just the one building,” he said.
He said an SES unit provided lighting at the scene.
Mr Bourke said the fire hadn’t caused any disruption to traffic or nearby residents.
He said the cause of the blaze was unknown and would be investigated.
More to come.
