Detective Sergeant Andrew Raven, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said there had been a whereabouts alert out for the man.
He said police had been wanting to speak to the man for about four months.
A koori liaison officer was involved in negotiation with the person of interest to hand himself in.
"It was an excellent result. The man has been charged and bailed to appear in court during May," Detective Sergeant Raven said.
