Warrnambool trainer Aaron Purcell accepted with Guizot in a $125,000 race on Saturday but the six-year-old could be scratched from the 1800-metre event.
“I’ll make up my mind early Saturday morning if we’re to run at Caulfield,” Purcell said. “My gut feeling is to scratch Guizot and save him for a 1600-metre race at Flemington on February 16.
“The Flemington race appears an easier option but if there are a few scratchings at Caulfield we could run there. I’ll wait as long as I can on Saturday morning before making my final decision.”
The dual group one winning trainer is hoping to add the Hobart and Colac Cups to his mantelpiece on Sunday. Snoano runs in the $250,000 Hobart Cup, while Instigator, Scherzoso and Zebrinz line up in the $70,000 Colac Cup.
Meanwhile, veteran galloper Magnapal will take his place in a $125,000 race for Warrnambool trainer Daniel Bowman at Caulfield and fellow trainer Jarrod McLean saddles up his group one performer Trap For Fools in the $160,000 Carlyon Cup.
Ciaron Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace, has a strong hand with numerous runners including the former Darren Weir-trained gallopers Land Of Plenty, Night’s Watch, Yogi and Voodoo Lad among his chances on a tough nine-race program.
