The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning continue to test and monitor the lake, near Camperdown, for the bloom which was confirmed on November 28.
The public was advised to avoid all water contact, including swimming, fishing and boating and eating whole fish, shellfish or crustaceans from the lake. This advice remains in place.
Forest Fire Management Victoria Otway District manager David Roberts said people should avoid the affected water until the algae disperses and warning signs are removed.
“Direct contact with blue-green algae can cause allergic reactions such as skin rashes or itchiness, sore eyes ears and nose or, if swallowed, gastroenteritis, nausea or vomiting,” he said.
“Anyone who comes into contact with contaminated water should immediately wash in fresh water and seek medical advice if they experience any illness.
“Water from the lake should not be used for drinking, cooking or other domestic uses.”
