Chatfield blasted 258, an innings that included 24 boundaries and 11 sixes.
Killarney captain Brayden Buchanan, who missed the innings as he was away on Army Reserve duty, confirmed it was a record for the Crabs.
“It is the first time someone from Killarney has made 200,” Buchanan said.
“I knew he had to leave early to go to Geelong and on the Thursday night at training I actually predicted he would be in the 90s at tea when he had to go,” Buchanan said.
“Thankfully he stuck around to get his hundred and as he said, after that he just couldn’t get himself out, everything he hit just kept flying.
“It was great for Brendan but the other thing is from the team point of view it helped us to a score of 424.
“That’s a huge score, not many teams would have made that over the years.”
Former Grassmere and Mailors Flat batsman Peter McDonald produced a highest score of 225 not out during his long career.
McDonald, who can recall GCA action as far back as 1972, said he can’t remember a higher score.
“There are probably five or six times I can remember someone scoring a double hundred,” McDonald said.
“But this is the first time I think of anyone has got to over 250, it’s a huge innings.”

NAME BRAND
The South West Cricket Association is attracting some big names this season.
Former Australian batsman and coach Darren Lehmann has been very public in his support of Pomborneit, regularly tweeting to wish the Bulls the best.
A famous Australian cricket name has also appeared at Cobden.
Dean Jones played a lead role for Cobden in its win over Noorat on Saturday.
No, its not the Dean Jones who won hearts playing for Victoria and Australia during the 1980s and 90s.
Instead, this Dean Jones was recruited to Cobden from Geelong. Jones has played six games for Cobden, with Saturday’s contribution of 42 and 6-28 his most telling.
BACK IN THE DAY
While it is not THE Dean Jones playing for Cobden, once upon a time there was a star Victorian and Australian batsman who did come down from the big smoke to play amongst us.
Former Australian captain Graham Yallop made the trip down to play in Port Fairy in December 1999.
Yallop came to town to help the Port Fairy Cricket Club celebrate its 150th anniversary.
Yallop was part of a Port Fairy Invitational XI that played a Melbourne Cricket Club team in a one-day game. Yallop made just 14 but said the trip had been well worth while.
“You don’t get too many invitations to 150th cricket anniversaries,” Yallop told The Standard at the time.
“I played in the centenary Test against England back in 1980 but of course that was only 100 years, this is 150.”
As you will see from the photo of Yallop (above), there has been plenty of changes at Port Fairy Cricket Club’s home ground.
Note the pavilion behind Yallop is only single storey.
The building has since grown to a double-storey structure.

A return to one of our favourite subjects at Behind the Stumps, the football and cricket crossover.
This week we have discovered one of the Hampden league’s highest profile players making an impact on the cricket field.
Port Fairy ruckman Sandy Robinson pulled on a Pirates shirt on Saturday in a WDCA division three game against Koroit.
Robinson bowled eight overs of left-arm medium pace, taking 1-9, as Koroit made 2-163. Robinson then complied an unbeaten 37, as the Pirates cruised to 2-166.
A teammate of Robinson’s was Port Fairy’s local butcher, Nick Sheehan.
While he has signed on to coach Old Collegians in the Warrnambool and District league, Sheehan is still carrying the town’s cricket colours.
