Chatfield smashed 257 in the Crabs’ win over Mailors Flat today.
Killarney resumed day two of the game on 3-99, chasing Mailors Flat’s score of 192.
It turned out Chatfield had more than just winning on his mind.
“The first aim was to get the runs we needed to win the game,” Chatfield said.
“We lost a wicket in the first over and we were able to steady after that.
“I was in the 90s when we got the winning runs and thought I would go for the 100 after that.
“Once I got the hundred, I decided to just go for it because I had an engagement party in Geelong.
“I wanted to get going about three o’clock so I was pretty much trying to get out.
“I was just going for it and everything seemed to hit the middle.
“I ended up not getting away until about five o’clock.”
The Crabs finished with a score of 418 on the back of Chatfield’s spectacular contribution.
A two-time premiership player with Killarney, Chatfield’s previous highest score was 102, which he made in 2014-15.
The 26-year-old was modest about his double ton, focusing more on what lays ahead for his team.
“We dropped a game to Yambuk last round which was disappointing,” he said.
“The team has chopped and changed a bit so hopefully we can get a settled line-up in the run home.”
Killarney is on top of the Grassmere Cricket Association ladder with two rounds left to play.
