Lawyer Belinda Northey said her client had an intellectual disability, was illiterate and was also withdrawing from cannabis use.
Mr Griffiths has also been charged with an aggravated burglary in Warrnambool’s Elliott Street on January 3.
He is also alleged to have stolen personal cards, a television, petrol, sunglasses, a backpack, keys, cigarettes, a fridge, UHF radios and firearms.
Mr Griffiths is further alleged to have evaded police and has been charged with four counts of reckless driving in a stolen car during which he put the safety of police officers at risk.
He was arrested about 6pm Friday and remanded in custody over the weekend after Victoria Police special operations group (SOG) officers travelled to Warrnambool and surrounded a house in Younger Street.
Allegations about the presence of firearms prompted the involvement of SOG officers.
In a separate case, a Glenthompson man has been remanded in custody until the end of February after being charged with another six offences.
Timothy Troy Eales, 40, of Glenelg Highway, refused to appear in Warrnambool court on Monday and did not apply for bail.
He was remanded in custody by the magistrate until February 27.
Mr Eales had other charges adjourned in December and again in Hamilton court last week until a contested hearing in April.
He now faces six new charges including harassing a witness.
Lawyer Jack Rabl said his client faced serving a term of imprisonment.
“He’s in a heightened state of distress. Imprisonment is clearly in the frame,” he said.
It’s expected that Mr Eales will be medically assessed while in prison on remand.
And a Warrnambool woman previously fined $2500 and banned from owning animals for five years after a dog in her care died of neglect is now wanted by police.

She is already on a community corrections order for assault.
Ms McKane has not complied with that court order.
She was also on court Integrated services program bail, aimed to provide assistance but a report stated her compliance had been poor and she should be removed from the program.
