The Waves will come up against the highly-rated North Western Wizards in a Twenty20 game on Wednesday morning.
Western Waves coach Jeff Rosolin said the clash would be a huge challenge.
“They are a really good team, they draw from the Essendon and Greenvale areas,” Rosolin said.
“I would say all of their players would be playing Victorian Premier Cricket so our boys will need to be ready to go.”
The Waves won both their games on Tuesday, defeating Mallee by eight wickets and following up with a 46-run victory over Falcons.
Standout performances from the day included Jordi Withers (63), Andrew Clark (4-12), Bailey Jenkinson (3-7) and Alex Jennings (3-12).
Rosolin said improvement from day one in the execution of fundamental skills turned the team’s form around.
“The boys might think they are playing a good standard at their club but it is another level here,” he said.
“Every run counts, so fielding well and running between wickets is just so important. Our intensity in both areas was a lot better today and will need to raise again to stay competitive.”
A half-century from in-form Merrivale batsman Flynn Wilkinson wasn’t enough to save the Western Waves under 14 team from defeat on Tuesday.
Wilkinson made 53 in the Waves Victorian Youth Premier League round four loss to Highlanders.
The Waves bowled first and restricted the Highlanders to 8-143 from 40 overs.
Mount Gambier’s Bodey Hosking was the best of the bowlers with 3-19, while West Warrnambool’s Noah Dawson took 2-19.
Wilkinson opened the batting for the Waves and was the only player in a score of 116 to reach double figures.
The Waves will play Rivers on Wednesday.
