The Warrnambool competitor is a regular in the annual fun run’s 10-kilometre section.
“I’ve actually done 11 or 12 in a row. I started doing them when I was 19,” he said ahead of Sunday’s 38th edition.
“I think low 36 (minutes is my best time), I usually finish around seventh to 10th.”
Edney, 32, said he was hopeful of finishing in the top five before his career was over.
”Maybe one day,” he said.
“There’s always so many fast blokes that come here.”
Edney prepared for the Surf ‘T’ Surf on Wednesday with a run in the Warrnambool Athletics Club’s first five-kilometre summer series run of 2019.
“I do longer stuff. The last few years I’ve been doing ultra marathons,” he said.
“This (five kilometres) isn’t a specialty for me. I am using it as a training run, I like running with people, so it’s not really about placings and stuff for me.”
Edney, a painter by trade, said running was now his sport of choice.
“I used to box and do kickboxing and I stuck with it after injuries, I kept running and got hooked on it,” he said. The Surf ‘T’ Surf 10km run starts at Lake Pertobe at 8am.
There are three other sections – 6km run (8.15am), 6km walk (8.20am) and 3km Lap of the Lake (8.25am).
